Description:

The Institute of Aviation Medicine (AVMED) is a unit of Aerospace Operational Support Group and provides flexible support to aerospace operations in the Australian Defence Force (ADF) via application of specialist resources.  To ensures the effectiveness and safety of ADF Air Operations through the selection and training of aircrew, research and development, human factors, aircraft life support, maintenance and oversight of aircrew health standards including Aircrew Medical Employment Classification Reviews (AMECRs), and policy advice.

We requires a Specialist Aviation Medical Officer (SAMO) as Contractor on a part time basis with an overall effort of approximately 1 day per week for 46 weeks per annum, including blocks of works of up to 3 consecutive days. SAMO duties cover a range of aviation medicine related activity but are primarily training related, including:

a. Specialist instruction in aviation medicine to ADF members as required (including aircrew, aircraft controllers, aviation health personnel and other aviation-related personnel as required).  Such instruction is delivered to a high standard by lecture, tutorial and/or practical demonstration covering the full range scope of aviation medicine;

b. Participation and supervision of AVMED practical training activities;

c. Provision of specialist aviation medicine practitioner services to the broader functions of AVMED if required and directed by CO AVMED;

Training will be delivered at various locations within Australia.
